The Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional holiday occurring on the 5th day of the 5th month of the traditional Chinese calendar, which falls on June 10th, 2024, this year. With a history spanning over 2,300 years, the festival is rich in cultural significance and cherished traditions.

Common activities during the Dragon Boat Festival include:

  • Zongzi (Sticky Rice Buns):    A notable part of the celebration is making and eating zongzi with family and friends.
  • Dragon Boat Racing:   This exciting event has a history of over 2,500 years, originating from ancient ceremonial traditions in southern central China.
  • Realgar Wine:   Also known as Xiong Huang wine, this drink is made from Chinese yellow wine mixed with powdered realgar, a yellow-orange arsenic sulfide mineral.
  • 5-Colored Silk-Threaded Braid:   In some regions, parents braid silk threads of five colors and tie them on their children's wrists to ward off evil spirits and diseases.
  • Scented Sachets:   These are carried by people to protect themselves from evil.
  • Egg Balancing:   At noon, people try to balance eggs, which is believed to bring good luck for the coming year.

As the annual Gaokao (National College Entrance Examination) takes place from June 7th to 9th, the JDK team would like to extend our heartfelt wishes:

  • For exam takers, may you achieve great success and live up to all "expectations".
  • For those who love life, may you be blessed with happiness and always have "joy" by your side.
  • For all of us chasing dreams, may we aim high and possess both virtue and talent, "wrapped" together!

Wishing everyone a peaceful and joyous Dragon Boat Festival!
